Methodology
“Pervasive learning is a social process that connects learners to communities of devices, people, and situations so that learners can construct relevant and meaningful learning experiences, that they author themselves, in locations and at times that they find meaningful and relevant.”-Siobhan Thomas
SQL Star employs the methodology of “Blended Learning” in constructing a course. Blended Learning refers to the use of more than one method of instruction. For our purposes, it is accomplished by offering courses that “blend” virtual and physical resources to create a pervasive learning experience that goes beyond the physical confines of the classroom.
There is no single formula for ensuring that one form of instruction is more effective than another as each individual exhibits different learning styles and intelligences. By recognizing and embracing those differences, blended learning allows students to take control of their learning experience.
As training shifts to self-paced, on-line programs, it is critical for both individuals and corporate training departments to keep in mind the various intelligences of the audience for whom the instruction is being prepared. For instance, we cannot assume that people already know how to be diligent students on-line. As learning facilitators, it is our role to help students recognize their various learning styles, and set a stage for learning that is personal and meaningful to them.
At thelearningport.com, we make it our responsibility to stimulate the various intelligences that are inherent in each one of our students, so that the objective of meaningful learning is fulfilled. To that end we encourage the use of Web 2.0 technologies which foster the sharing of knowledge, such as wikis, blogs, app. notes, contextual search, message boards and the like, as well as the Virtual Classroom (Elluminate) to foster the spirit of learning.
This is our effort to deliver to you, the learners, a rich and truly pervasive learning experience.
